PACFA News Latest PACFA eNewsClick here NEWS FLASH Dear Member Associations,You will all be pleased to know that we have now been advised that the Victorian Government , and indirectly the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) has accepted the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ARCAP) as the approved single national credentialling system for the professions. This follows on from the survey undertaken by PACFA funded by Victorian Department of Human Services on the self regulation of professions. This is great news and the first step in our continuing effort to gain recognition of Psychotherapists and Counsellors across Australia. Kind Regards Tim Johnson-Newell President PACFA Opening address at the PACFA/ACA Conference by Dr Peter Baume Letter from the President to Member Associations President's Report to PACFA AGM PACFA Surveys Dr. Margot Schofield, in conjunction with others, is conducting a very important study into the counselling/psychotherapy profession. I would like to encourage all of you to respond to the online survey as it will provide our association and PACFA with vital information about our profession. We are reliably informed that we will be able to access information specific to our association if a reasonable number of our members respond to the survey, so again encourage you all to participate as soon as possible. The information will be useful in our future planning to address the concerns and needs of our members. The survey can be found and completed online at the following link and takes roughly an hour to complete:Click here to access this PACFA Survey Fourth National Mental Health Plan Consultation Survey Details of the 2007 Survey results can be located at:http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/mf/4326.0 Background information from the Australian Government is available at:http://www.health.gov.au/internet/mentalhealth/publishing.nsf/Content/whats-new-lp-1 Why PACFA membership is essential to us as an
Association of Relationship Counsellors It is essential
for AARC to belong as an active member association of PACFA
because: 1.
PACFA is the peak
counselling body in
Australia 2.
PACFA provides an
independent benchmark of standards and the most effective means to
self-regulation of the professions of counselling and
psychotherapy. 3.
PACFA through
research seeks to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of counselling
& psychotherapy. 4.
PACFA is more
able to represent the professions of counselling and psychotherapy than
individual member associations for example to lobby government and health
funds for recognition and more equitable consumer access.
5.
PACFA
represents a philosophical alternative to the health professions more
closely aligned with the medical model. 6. PACFA in establishing a national register of practitioners promotes professional definition, accountability and access for consumers.
